Fast forward a years worth of building and buying and doing research the whole way and i have finally completed a Mid-Level gaming rig, that has most of the bells and whistles and room for growth to boot. Ive been a computer enthusiast since the days of green lcd screens where DOS was the o.s. and all i could play was Mr. Do. and Asteroids, or some variation of it. up until i knew i was a lifer when i was introduced to Seventh Guest where me and Gameface played all night, and i woke up with eye strain because of the refresh rate of the old monitors were'nt safe enough to stare at for hours on end. Well that was decade(s) ago and now here we are. Where affordable computer power is at our finger tips, im talking Google Earth crazy stuff the average user can use, think back hmm 8.. maybe 9 years ago.. we didnt even have cell phones to the masses.. pagers were in wide use.

anyhow.. thats another topic . so on with the listing of cool computer parts..*note cost was in mind when building for longevity i spent above average on my case, since the last one.. Antec 900 i had for 4 years.. and if you break that down from 115 i payed for it, a solid investment.

In my experience, the first thing you should start with is the Mother Board.. the MB is the most crucial element for your building plan, budget and over all performance of the machine. If you are wondering where to put the most money, here is where i recommend you do. I found the best low price range, but with mid range growth potential for my build.

MotherBoard: Gigabye : GA-890-UD3H
- 7.1 Surround Onboard Video(just in case you couldnt spend money on a VidCard) 3.0 USB 3.0 SATA - I went with gigabyte for loyalty factor, my last build 6 years old is still running and even after 2 cpu transplants. Impressive for its cost.

Secondly i naturally went with the cpu, choosing this board gave me a variety of options. One of the many fantastic qualities of AMD's line is its compatibility. The Gigabyte MB, allows me access to a range of AMs, AM+ AM2 AM3. Thats several generation of AMD CPUS. Keeping in mind that i didnt try to max out my potential from the start, but still have more power than the last build.

CPU: Phenom x4 955 125w 3.2gh(stock) 6mb cache

- Quad-Core baby, easily overclockable to 4.2 and with 6mb of cache it can handle almost anything i throw at it. If you notice on the link its mid range of that processor group, and my MB still can be upgraded to 6cores, when they fall into a worthy price range, i might bite.

Next a no brainer, find the best priced memory, and try to get the most for your buck. with the advent of Win7 you can max out at 32 gig!! thats crazy, but ill settle for 8, so each core has 2gigs of free ram to mess with, the new systems allow for UNGANGED memory and if "timed" right can really max your multi tasking potential.

Memory : Kingston HyperX .. i went with the blue theme because of the MB. there is large and nice median ave when memory is concerned. if your not overclocking or doing some crazy encoding or editing anything will do really.
Beast of Burden Kingston_HyperX_DDR3-1333_4x_2_GB

and now with the core of my system established, the next thing i had to find was a case!.

When i first saw this thing, it was at frys and it was the 600. version. all black no side panel. thankfully as it took my interest Corsair was hard at work fixing the bugs of the build and really listen to the community and gladly fulfilled requests.

Case : Corsair 600t Special Edition

Maybe staring at my antec 900 for several years made me form some wishes of my own, now that i own this little droid, im excited to see it grow for the next 6. Above industry standards across the board, with modular and screwless drivebays, unparalleled cable management (main reason my i purchased it) And superb design, it looks f00king cool Smile but note when building. its a HUGE mid tower. its almost a full.

Power Supply : Corsair 750Tx Enthusiast Series

Naturally I selected a PSU next. One that would fulfill my needs in the "cross-fire" department as well as any extra power for the overclocking. but firstly i went with reliability, Corsair has jumped to the top of the market with its PSU line! i went with the hype and i can see why.

Cpu Cooler : Corsair H60

Zalman was king of cool during my last builds glory days, and noise factor was lost by the wayside when speed was at the top of everyones list. Self Enclosed Water cooling unit, can keep the temp into the low 30's when MAX load. I chose this CPU cooler for several reasons, but firstly was for noise reduction and secondly was because imma overclock this baby! Smile

Video Card : XFX Radeon 6850

Sweet sweet XFX, i love their products, they seem to always offer a little more with their versions of the cards, when i had some SLI's nvdias back in the day XFX made a strong impression and ive been doing my homework and reading whats the best bang for the buck. And this is what caught my eye. Smaller(shorter) than its 5000 series predecessor, quieter, less heat.. and thankfully LESS POWER.. everyone will scream and shout about benchmarks, but there are many other factors in play that one should thing about when getting a high end vid-card. ya more money means faster, but the GTX 460 and so on.. are such power hogs,, consider your 600 psu unite obsolete, and if you wanted to stackem. aka SLI or Xfire.. you couldnt. and well thats what i intend to do. SmileSmile oh yeah did i happen to mention that AMD owns ATI? Smile

Lastly, ive been wanting a RAID setup for some while now, to see if speed and reliability will improve, and to get that damn windows 7 score to 7.9. im close.. but not there yet, when i get to SSD.. which is part of my potential growth plan, but until capacity of 240 gig SSD cost less than a 100. *currently 499*.. then its just not fathomable

Hard disk: Seagate Baraccuda 1TB 7200 x 2

Have 2 of these babies in a Raid 0, where redundancy ups Read and Write Times, and i still keep my total space of 2TBs.. sadly tho.. if 1 goes.. they both go.. thats where a 3rd one might be nice to add to the list, and i can Raid 5. where i have one for backup. but until then ill just watch the pricewaves! cyclops

If you read this much and are still with me, i thank you and i promise you some pics and some eventual benchmarks. all in all i spent around 800 in the last year to put this baby together, which will last me at least 4 years. if not more. with potential upgrades. and a little splurgin on the case. It will handle anything i throw at it, and its basically my main source of everything T.V. education. communication, entertainment, (hdmi out to the wall-mounted-lcd.) and productivity, i plan on making some flash and eventually a cartoon Smile

happy as a clam

Powerfull. Shocked

Me i'll probably buy that:

CPU - Intel Core i7 960

Case - CM Storm Sniper Black Edition mesh version

Motherboard - Asus Rampage III Formula (rog.asus.com)

Memory - Corsair Vengeance 12GB 3X4GB DDR3 - 1600 Triple Channel Core i7 Memory
(I'll probably take better)

Power Suply - CM Silent Pro Gold 800W

Powerbar - HP Surge Protector 200 by monster

GC - Gigabyte ATI Radeon 5770 (I already have 1. Soooo, cossfire Very Happy )
(Yeah,yeah... Not terrible. I'll check if I can sell my previous card and buy an Nvidia GTX 570)

No memory, I bought 1To from Seagate after Xmas this year.

But I need to change my keyboard for this. (My old block sometimes):
LOGITECH G510

And I already bought the mouse: CM Storm INFERNO.

But, before I need a job. I'll have 16 soon. So, that would not be so hard. I'll try to have this computer before Battlefield 3, MW3 and AC - Revelation.

Spoiler:
