Hey all. Before long (possibly by the end of the month) I will be releasing a demo for the game I have been developing for well over a year.

These are just some pictures of the game. You'll notice that most of the graphics are stock or slight variations. Part of the purpose of the upcoming demo is to try and recruit some artists to make this a game with original monsters, backgrounds, sprites etc. Mostly, then, the demo will be to showcase the gameplay, which includes custom magic, menus, and other features. I am considering extending the demo to include a story arc as well, which would push the release date into the following month or later.

The story is about a man who finds a magic chamber that allows him to relive the lives of people from different parts of the past. He progresses through a labyrinth, unlocking different parts of history and experiencing them firsthand. He is also trying to remove a curse that stops him from remembering/understanding his own convoluted past. As he gains power in this labyrinth world, his power increases in the physical world as well, and he is able to grant his party members the ability to do things like cast magic.

The hero's background is that he was a jail guard who was dismissed on suspicion that he helped a prisoner to escape. He is older than your typical hero, late twenties or thirties, and has a wife.

The story has more serious yet more subtle tones than many games I have played. I'm including themes of betrayal, power, and inequality. The general feel of the world and the events in it may be similar to Yasumi Matsuno games (Vagrant Story, FF Tactics), but easier to grasp... The world is a mix different eras, much like the now popular post-apocalyptic fantasy world, but is still decidedly more of a fantasy world. For example, a communication form similar the internet exists in the world, but things like robots, modern vehicles, and science do not.

You'll notice I didn't mention a distinct antagonist. This is because the character's conflicts will mostly center around the hero versus the world at large. Thus, antagonist(s) will not emerge obviously and immediately.

These are some of the concepts for now. I hope that gave you an idea of the story. Just prod me if you want me to share more!

You have this kind of work just lying around? I am always impressed with how quickly artists seem to be able to make awesome stuff.

Any chance you could help me with some parallax backgrounds that loop when they scroll? Something like the background in this pic would work perfectly.
