you know i have been working on a thing that would do that. give the enemies a field of view and maybe hearing (like that in Mr Mo's ABS).

but i don't have any thing yet its still just an idea.

I guess a trigger is activated when you step into the guard's ''light'' isn't it? The light goes through objects, while for a sneak game it is nice if you could actually hide behind an object close to the guard.

Is that possible with this script or not? (i.e. does the ''light'' go through objects or can u actually hide in the ''light'' when you are behind an object but on opposite side of the guard?)

That was one of my intentions towards an update for this script that couldn't been done in the event version with out some complications. When i find the time to work on this script you can count on that being in the update.

I hope I'm not breaking any rules posting here...but I seem to have a problem. I pasted your script and all the graphics into my project and set it up. But this is what I have:

this is just event command mistake Smile
on the light1 you could see command like :
when guard is facing up
this event face up
change event location this event (004,007)
when guard is facing left
this event face left
change event location this event (002,010) [this change location seems like far away, well thats because the graphic is like that Very Happy ]
and so on.....

this would changes the location of the light, so just configure it so the light "looked like" comes from the guard Smile

The guard and The Light only connection is their exact same facing,the light is just there to make it look cool so dont worry if you touch the light and it doesnt work Razz

in the script it will tell the distance that needed for the guard to act in local switch A ( you can change it however you like)

so basicaly, the light doesnt do anything other than for show, the important thing is the distance from the guard (btw you have to put name [Avoid_Guard] in its name to function)

oh btw i forgot to add that the only connection to guard and light is not just same facing, theres also
move event (opacity:0) from collision/switch (A) .....hmm yes i guess thats all Smile

allthough, i would prefer the guard come and catch us while the light follow and they flash the light to our face Laughing
but to do that, is it better to alter the characters graphics?
or there might be complication as the light doesnt look alive enough....hmmm......

So for "this event" I'd make it pointing to the left/right/up/down, right? So if the soldier is turning left, I change the "this event" to point left...?

Is there a way to make it so the soldiers don't need the light? I'm trying to create a little forest where you have to avoid goblins and get to the end... Surprised

Yea you can make it to where its not needed, but you have to make a custom character set with the light, actually if i find the time, might not be for a while, but i can change the script to just put the light on the guard automatically, my script skills have improved since i last touched this.

i dont mean to be rude @little wolf , but i get the impression that you still think that the [light] matters.
if you want, you can just make guard/monster/goblin thats not using light at all, but it will be hard to predict their distance of view (for the player) Very Happy .

hey i just got an idea (dunno where its from) bounce
the script worked using distance as the switch,and when we hide behind something it still trigger it, but if we use :
common event (touch) behind the wall and then use script command to diactivate the [Avoid Guards] script , will it worked?

Not rude at all...I understood a bit after and thought about that same thing. How would players know the distance? I suppose I'll have to make the forest deep and dark and give the goblins lanterns, that will look good Smile

I just tested the new demo and script. Its even awesomer-y. Razz

I do have one question though. How do I get the message about the Light Character to stop appearing? I've imported the character graphic four times in the character folder as it says....

Yea...and what's strange is, its still allows me to play even though it says I don't have it and the graphic shows, but the message doesn't stop showing up.

well i suppose you can just go to line 170 and add a "#" symbol at the start of the line to make the line green (just turns it into a comment line).

All it does is just inform you that your missing a graphic, the script should work fine and you wont get that error message any more.

@little wolf i wanted to help but i dont really know what the problem is silent sorry

..so...you imported the character graphic....did you delete the light[event] in your game? (not in character graphic)
cuz in the new demo it doesnt need light [event] anymore,
so the guard 'is' releasing light Razz ,right?

I tried deleting the light event, doesn't seem to recognize that I have done it...but I used Mr.Wiggles advice and it seems to be working fine now Smile
