^,^
Thought I would dust off the blog and say that I've been spending some quality time learning Ruby.
(RGSS to be specific)

What I've found to be most helpful
in learning more about RGSS:

1.) the "HELP" menu in RPG MAKER XP
F1 contents

2.) the RGSS script reference portal on R3.
http://www.rpgrevolution.com/rgss-script-ref/

3.) learning from mr_wiggles
*who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? Razz

I sense closing in on another notch
for my scripting level. Cool

Once I reach my short-term goal.
I will then clean up some of my scripts, make some new ones, and then get back to making custom graphics and sounds for these starter kits and games projects.

Looking forward to sharing my progress with all of you who has kept the underground alive. ^,^

drunken

the more you learn the more you will have to learn more about what you have learned before you even learn about it.

syntax, proper indent, hidden class, modules, ...endless

I'm usually a fast learner, with Ruby/ RGSS it took time, there's no limit to it. It's functionality to performance process, no lag, using the right class, perfect programming. I guess that's why I find it so interesting and challenging for me.

Even with my music or art, I'm much more organic than technical, more of a creative thinker than a logical one.
I tend to "over think" when trying to get things to work.

Starting off learning how to just simply "use" a script, then tweaking other scripts with edits to get ideas working or to make compatible with other scripts. I ended up making mini scripts or fusing scripts, making user friendly interface modules, to making original HUDs and a few G@MeF@Ce101 scripts. Still after all this there was more to learn about Object Orientation and other basics that were overlooked. Embarassed

Now you understand why no matter how much I progress with RGSS, I will always consider myself a scripting noob. Cool

I haven't been playing with words, sounds, graphics, as much since I've been playing with code.

Once these projects have a stable foundation that's well programmed, then I will switch mode to the GRAPHICS and SOUNDS then end it with WORDS.

code is still the mode...

talking about the more you know the more you need to learn.

I'm learning about memory leaks and how Ruby its self manages memory. Tricky stuff X|

Very Happy - this is me

drunken - this is my brain on RGSS

memory leaks and memory management
you are far beyond my reach.

I'm still wrapping my head around reusing existing code, being more efficient with what's already there.

alias methods, attr_accessor,_reader,_writer...

avoiding global variables when possible.

so much to learn...
