I recently up graded my "obsolete" shelf system to what my friend Victor termed a true "Audiophile" system. I have been waiting for a long time for the right deal to come around, I was going to get my component system one piece at a time if I had to. Then the opportunity presented itself. I found an Onkyo 7 piece component system that was worth $2,500.00 brand new for sale for $300.00 bucks. The ad provided the model numbers of the system and some quick googling I found that just two of the components (the pre-amp and the power amp) were worth $295.00 Granted the record player was crap (because if it wasn't DJ quaility most record players from the mid eighties on were crap) I already had a decent early eighties Techinics record player. Now I needed speakers and wouldn't you know I found some rare Jennings Research Inc. Elan Tower speakers for around the $250.00 range for a pair (similar ads across the country were selling at $500.00 a pair. These are sweet speakers not only were they walnut veener solid made swivel based speakers, they have high and mid frequency transducer controls (way cool). So I made off like a bandit on a way cool system. Am I happy, I'd have to say yes. I got my system... now for the vinyl/cassette tape/cd collection. If you have any of these "obsolete" medias and are willing to part with them for a reasonable price, let me know.

let's see...

an Audiophile is a person having an ardent interest in stereo or high-fidelity sound reproduction.

we get this from:

the Latin word 'audio' = "I hear"

and the Greek word 'philos' = "loving"

now put that together with your new setup,
play some of your favorite jams, and if you can say
"I'm loving what I hear."

then Yes you are an Audiophile Razz

^,^ - me too!

well most of my media has gone digital
due to the cabinet creations...
(which will be ready by summer of next year!!!!)

maybe this weekend I'll hit up the Capitol flea market
if so I'll be on the look out for some old school media.
anything in particular?

When it comes to cassette tapes I'm not picky, keep in mind I like most music. But when it comes to vinyl I'm very picky so I will probably just stick to finding it myself where I can inspect it and make sure it has my stamp of approval lol

It's not a waste of money ... it's an investment in Americana history. Anyways I had bad experience with just downloading everything.I uploaded my entire cd collection to Itunes and then sold or gave away a lot of the cds. I also bought a few gigs of new music from Itunes, which I didn't listen to burning to disc like it was suggested. Through a computer glitch all my music files got erased. I lost over 40 gigs of music that couldn't be recovered. But I still had my record and tape collection. So I decided to collect the "big 3" (records, tapes, and cds) I do download music but now I make sure I back it up. So the lesson for today boys and girls, "Don't get caught with your zipper down!!!!"
