If you haven't already installed RocketDock, here's some more software that will improve your desktop and compliment the use of gadgets along with an application launcher.
Rainmeter is a great desktop customizing tool. Open-source with countless skins and tweaks, you can put your own twist on your computers interface, nobody will recognize your operating system.
I'm currently dabbling with Omnimo, it's another UI for my netbook/tablet to take more advantage of the touch, but I plan on seeing what I can trick out with Rainmeter on my desktops shortly after.
So all of you WinxP/Vista/7 users that haven't tried don't be shy...give it a try! After all it's free +++++

Yeah, Rainmeter is super cool. I've used it for about 3 months now. (info commercial?)
It's pretty nice having a clear desktop, probably because I try to show off my wallpaper as much as possible. Downside is that it's a bit more fiddly than having your usual shortcuts.

talk about customization! +
I got sucked into the rainmeter dimension and started tinkering with all of the skins and various features...
it turns out the latest final release has the feature to wrap up your own/suite/theme/skin into a nice and tidy file so that you can share for others to install.
after getting caught up learning the 101's like measures, bangs, and syntax, I decided to make a few original skins for my machines. I'm currently working on a Tron and a Resident evil skin ^,^ and promise to share once done in time
Check out what I've learned so far
^ I created a diver to monitor hard drive space and
you can click on it to access the hard drive +
the disk also reflects space used
here's the code for the .ini file
this is just the start for the tron-like skin that I'm going to make Game_Grid,
and the very beginning for the hard drive monitor, it's kind of cool to just make what you're looking for then to search and never find it.

this is just the start for the tron-like skin that I'm going to make Game_Grid,
and the very beginning for the hard drive monitor, it's kind of cool to just make what you're looking for then to search and never find it.
