I like the idea Blue, but it sounds a bit too much like FF6 to me. I try and stay away from wars and empires as the main plot because it has been done so much.
Oh yes, also, didn't mean to lay claim to the story. I don't mind if someone else wants to do it; I am just volunteering if no one else is attached to it.

what about:
artifact is "non-existing" the world and some group runs off and decides to try figure it out and you chase after them because they're too dumb to know better?
has it been used? i dont watch too many movies/play games.

More then one person can take claim to a job. We still need a mapper, and the idea for the game.

- When everything is figured out can you create a part on the forum that will allow everyone involve to discus ideas and stay out of public eyes? This way we can surprise people with the end result.

if you want some tips for natural settings i usually just make it as random, off centre and a symmetrical as possible and with man made places I organise different areas and make it with direct paths to get from A to B asap. With primative villages I do a mix of both.

Hidden forum for it is a great idea Wiggles. Well I would like to know if it is ok if I jump on story. If you really want it Blue, it can be all yours and I really won't be offended. You did call it first after all. But if no one else takes it, I will happily do it. In that event, should I just start writing, or wait for more input about what the story should be about.
If left to my own devices, then the story will be primarily serious, heartfelt, and probably full of supernatural forces. Also probably fairly dialog heavy compared to most RPGs. But with enough input, I could also do a comedy just fine. Gameface is really the only one who has read my work, so you'll have to vouch for me buddy
It would really help to know what the gameplay is going to be life... How much action? How long of a game are we shooting for? Maybe we should set a chat time to discuss all this...
