Speedrunning is the act of completing a game in the fastest way possible. I have been following various speedruns throughout my summer and I have to say that I have learned a lot.
The various games I have watched: Legend of Zelda: OOT, Legend of Zelda: Windwaker, Dark Souls (Just witnessed this today), Super Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie (Upcoming), Super Mario Sunshine, and Sonic The Hedgehog (The Original).
There are also many types of speedruns:
100% - Beating the game as fast as possible while achieving all 100% possible goals within the game.
Any% - Beat the game as fast as possible.
Low% - Beat the game with the lowest amount of items
Bingo - In Bingo races, everybody gets the same randomly generated 5×5 card of objectives. To finish the race, you must complete objectives in a line. Once you get a full row, column, or diagonal, you are done. (Cards can be found on http://speedrunslive.com/tools/ )
TAS - Tool-Assisted Speedrun - An input file created to play back what an optimal speedrun would look like, in an emulator. Most of the community frowns upon this type of Speedrun.
Of all the games I've watched, the players all seem to be a part of SpeedRunsLive (
http://speedrunslive.com/), a community for speedruns and racing.
Here are some of the World Records of the games I've watched so far:

Yeah it took me forever (probably a decade) to even beat it. I remember beating it last year actually but with the help of a walkthrough since I always seemed to miss a key in the Forest Temple.
Most of these guys do insane glitches to clip through walls and such and it's really cool knowing that people have found to do that.

I watched a few really cool Amnesia speed runs. Also this 7 minute run of the original Portal. So many no-clip glitches and walking outside of the levels.

I havent played Mirror's Edge but I get the feeling it's like a version of Assassin's Creed that I want. Moar parkour, less being Italian.

Speedrunning seems so much fun but learning and practicing seems so tedious to me. I'm more of a competitive person so just playing against myself wouldn't be that fun. I could do the races on SRL but I most of them need to be Streamed and I don't own a capture card.
