I was just thinking, we see colour because of light. The shade of the colour changes with the different lighting. So, look at your computer. What colour is it? Sure you might say, cream or black. But what if there was more light? Is it white now? Now, if you blocked all the windows. It's grey. Apply this to someting else. Same results. Different lighting, different colour. Now, since light is never the same brightness/shade etc. what is the real colour of your computer?

Great question Blue.

People in the design industry literally spend thousands of pounds on high spec computer monitors that show them the exact colour (or a very close approximation) to what they'll see when they print the image.

This sort of configuration is a science. As you described light is absorbed at different rates - so it won't be the same for your monitor as it is for a piece of paper - so this sort of config costs thousands, if not tens of thousands.

And whilst we're at it, how can we be sure that we see the exact same colour as each other? As we all know, people's eyes vary heavily.

Tens of thousands of dollars? I'd just buy a good Xerox printer and be done with it. I mean, even if you get some special monitor, you can still change the amount of light exposure you get. Yeah everyone would see differently. Like when I cover my right eye, everything is blue shaded (very slightly, like the "cool" setting on a camera) and the opposite with my left eye covered. If my supposedly calibrated eyes have such a difference what about my left compared to yours? Also gals see more colour then guys.

Yeah I noticed my left was the cool setting the other night, when I was laid in bed, my right eye closed - it was like a flashback scene in a thriller movie, that sort of bluish grey they tend to use.

Yeah crazy money is spent on that kind of setup. Monitors come with different colour gamuts - meaning they can recreate a vaster array of colours onscreen - it's not something I'm well versed in but I know graphic designers and such go in for it in a BIG way. Same with the printers, it's no good having an amazing monitor that can recreate all these colours if you have a cheap HP printer like I have.

Yeah I think I read that somewhere too. And apparently we're all covered in a furry cocoon whilst in the womb that we actually consume as foetuses - nomnomnom lol.

Well, I guess that the eyes are supposed to work together to achieve a certain spectrum of colour to send to your brain?

I dont see the point in spending money on something that will change anyway (like, from screen to printer). Don't worry, I've got a gray scale Brother printer.

I don't get it.

Oh yeah, we actually have red, green, blue not yellow. But I'm sure it fits there somewhere
