official review for
INTRO- INTRO:
- For those who have an NSP (Nvidia Shield Portable) and haven't touched it in a while...here's a game that I strongly recommend for that device+
If you don't have an NSP I recommend that you get one
(best handheld gaming device ever ~ no joke)
You can still play Hotline Miami 2 Wrong Number on other devices
(ps4/xb1/pc/mobile)
First of all, if you haven't played the first Hotline Miami, stop reading, go and get that game and play that $#!7!
Hotline Miami 2 Wrong Number is basically part 1 on steroids!
This game offers a broken story line that somehow pieces together, great retro graphics and animations, cool 80's feel instrumentals, and puzzling stages solved by bloodbaths with an overall serial killing miami vice type of mayhem and mental madness.
With a late 80's early 90's feel, stages are simply VHS tapes that you must watch (beat)
There's plenty of replay for each stage has your score/grade based off a number of metrics
Watching the story unfold makes it a must to progress to the bitter end.
WORDS
- WORDS:
Having played the first Hotline Miami and growing up watching TV shows like the Equalizer, A-team, movies like Live and Die in L.A., I was familiar with the Russian bad guys, questionable Cops, and mental maniacs on the loose. The hopping from one characters side of the story to others makes it an interesting and enjoyable experience as you progress through the game. The story never went too cliche' and had a nice set of twists and touch of madness.
SOUNDS
- SOUNDS:
As one who makes beats, I really dig the background music for both Hotline Miami games. From the plot thickening dramatic ambiance, the 80's/90's talk show pizzazz workout jams to the driving down the boulevard with the top down "Crocket & Tubbs" music. I hold the collaboration of artists and the collection of tracks at a high regard, about as high as Interstate 76' soundtrack +

GRAPHICS
- GRAPHICS:
This game has it's own style yet I don't find it to be pixel perfect, sorry I know I must sound like an @$$. I strongly feel if the look was cleaned up a bit, just cleaner and more vivid, kind of like that simple kung fury game, I know I know it's side view vs Hotline's top down, I'm just saying a cleaner look would be more appreciated versus the going for a sloppy but cool look. Don't get me wrong the design is there, everything from the colors to the concepts, it's just not pixel perfect to me. Still I dig it visually +

CODE
- CODE:
- Everything from the animated font shadow, to the sliding windows, tilting stages, and the smoothness of gameplay reflects accurate programming. Solid timing and the ability to skip story, gives the user full control of the tempo and content. The pause menu is very clever boasting it's demagnetized VHS tape look and feel. In addition from the first game, there's lots of new content, animations, features, weather effects, etc... not to mention some very challenging stages. I am hoping that there will be a part 3 offering all masks to return from part 1 with even more masks and features such as a cartwheel kick or even setting up booty twaps
PROJECT
- PROJECT:
- This killer 2D top-down action video game was made by Jonatan Söderström and Dennis Wedin, collectively known as Dennaton Games. These two guys brought back 80/90's pop culture and made a cult following. I encourage you to google Hotline Miami, go to images, and see how many people who are die hard fans, from cosplayers to artists. There's really not that many 2D top down shooters, let alone good ones that are solid in immersion. @Dennaton - Mad props fellas' looking forward to a part 3! make sure to make a "Mike"
CONCLUSION
- CONCLUSION:
- There you have it, Hotline Miami 2 Wrong Number gets a 4.5 our of 5.
I may have been a bit demanding about the graphics but imagine a more refined look, would that take away from the game? I didn't think so... I love the story, the music, the gameplay, heck I liked it so much I spent quite some time making an official review. I highly recommend it for the Nvidia Shield Portable, or you can play it on a tablet with controller, or a PS4 for a more natural config.
Well I truly hope you enjoyed this review and will give this game a try and have a matching opinion with my critic.
