every one has herd of and some have played the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
I remember back in the day owning one, i had quite a collection of games too, from mario bros to mortal combat and even kirby.
But my mom gave it away because i got the N64 and the person receiving the system had nothing.
years went by and i had the opportunity to buy a new one off a friend, this time only had 4 games and one controller, but it was still worth it. The games i had where not the most popular, Wayne's world, super mario all stars, and a few i forgot.
wasnt long till i lost this system as well, my dad this time gave it away cause i had a modded Xbox with all the old school systems on it and a ton of games.
My question is does any one recall owning or playing the SNES back in the day?

haha, Jesus Christ - born in '91 = old
I'm ancient in comparison!
Yea, the snes was a great console - it had Zelda and Mario. I was always a bigger fan of Sega though.
Sonic 4 is in production - woo!

well I'm not going to comment on "age" even though I just did...
but SUPER PUNCH-OUT
is one of my favorite games of all time!
as much as I loved the 8-bit NES...
I was in ecstasy when the Super came out.
even Super Mario World took months of my attention
better controllers with more buttons...
easier way to plug in a cartridge
(yes kids... a cartridge, before there ever was CDs/DVDs)
The SNES had to of been the greatest gaming work horse
until the PS2 came along.

@ calvin - the SNES has better sound quality then the sega.
sonic was fun too play, but it gets kinda repetitive, all you do is race to the end of the level and not much changes. "like puzzles"
Mario had those levels where you real had to think and worlds that took you all over, even under water where you could breath so you wouldn't drown.
Does any one remember the 32X ? or sega CD ?
" i don't remember owning a sega but i did play games on it, " my friend had one".
speaking of old games has any one ever watched Angry video game nerd?

@Wiggles - I agree Super Mario 3 is a legendary game.
The power-ups were (and remain to be) a way of making the games fresh and exciting. SMB3 is the best Mario game to date and has been unmatched in it's variety and gameplay.
I Loved Super Mario World 1 & 2, I really think that's where the puzzle element really came into it's own.
Let's not mention the fact Nintendo fobbed the West off with "Mario 2", changing a few graphics in "Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic" - they deemed the "original" Mario 2 too similar to the first game and too difficult for it's US/European players.
It was later released in Super Mario All-Stars under the name "Super Mario Bros - The Lost Levels".
The thing with Sonic that I often find is you either get it or you don't. Sure there were stages where you could just "race towards the end" (usually the first stage or two -the Mario 3 equivalent of course was flying through the level altogether) but to suggest that's ALL Sonic was is doing it a great injustice I think.
There were often times when you had to use your wits. A lot of the time the Sega Team would often use your own speed against you, having dangerous obstacles for you to face following a long speed-way.
You're not alone, a lot of people hated the water levels in Sonic:
Factual tip-bit
Sonic also had memorable bosses, that you could tell had been intricately designed.
Sure Browser was scary when you faced him in the original Mario but they never really experimented with their bosses after that - in Mario 3 all you had to do was jump on their head 3 times and that was it (make Bowser jump and break blocks 3 times was the only variant in the entire game).
Super Mario World did a better job at that.

- Spoiler:
- Labyrinth was meant to be the second level in the first sonic game but the creators changed their minds last minute deeming it too difficult - so they put it right near the end (second to last if I recall correctly). I'm a bit of a sadist, cause I loved those levels - try racing through those!

- Spoiler:
- Gain ground was one of my favourite sega games, you command a number of troops and you have to make your way through levels and levels of killing minions, collecting captives (to expand your troop selection) and going up against bosses.
Streets of Rage was also an awesome game. Gunstar heroes, Contra, Shining Force, Landstalker, Wonderboy in Monsterworld - that's just reading from my box lol
